Award-winning author and cultural critic Lynn Crosbie has a writing prompt to share with you and here it is. Try it!
Have the courage to write a baldly, nakedly, stupidly honest poem about someone you know, dead or alive, and say what you really feel about them. Avoid easy grasping, like hate and sentimental affection. Dig deep. And if you dig and find hate and crybaby sentiment, write that, and write it shamelessly. Try prompting yourself with rough starts like this, YOU HURT ME, YOU ALWAYS, YOU NEVER; YOU, MY DARLING YOU. If you tremble, if you cry, if you turn into the Hulk as you write, kid, you are on to something.
