Biography

Alice Notley was born in Bisbee, Arizona, in 1945 and grew up in Needles, California. The author of more than 20 books of poetry, she was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Poetry, the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, and the Griffin Poetry Prize, among other honours. Notley was an active member of New York’s Lower East Side literary scene for 16 years. She was married to the late poet Ted Berrigan and edited The Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan with their sons, Anselm and Edmund Berrigan. She now lives in Paris, France.
