Run a Contest
The Poetry In Voice recitation competition is an exciting way to explore poetry either in class or as an extra-curricular activity.
When you’re planning your approach, keep these points in mind:
DOUBLE-CHECK THE RULES AND DEADLINES
Review our rules and deadlines to ensure you’re clear on eligibility, how the contest works, and this year’s deadlines.
Feel free to adapt our materials for your students, but in order for students to compete in the Online Semifinals and National Finals, their poem choices and recitations must comply with our rules.
Schedule your classroom contest anytime between September and late winter.
Allow enough time between your school contest and this year’s Online Semifinals deadline to ensure there’s time for:
If you have any questions, contact us.
DETERMINE THE SIZE OF THIS YEAR'S CONTEST
The contest can be run in one class or across several classes or grades.
Drama teachers, debate coaches, librarians, and language teachers have all run the contest. See if anyone at your school is interested in working with you.
If this is your first year, you might work with one student or a small, enthusiastic group as an extra-curricular activity. Our hope is that eventually, the competition will become an anticipated event in your school’s calendar.
DETERMINE YOUR SCHOOL'S STREAMS
We offer students three competition streams: English, Bilingual, and French.
Check with the French teachers at your school to see if they would like to run the contest as well.
