Biography:

Born in Kent, the English poet Walter De La Mare (1873-1956) wrote horror stories, novels, and works for children in addition to poems. His poems—such as his best-known work “The Listeners”—are often subtle, mysterious, and moody. Though he worked in an office in London for many years, a pension eventually gave him the opportunity to focus on his writing.
