Theodore Roethke

Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Theodore Roethke studied at the University of Michigan and Harvard before beginning his writing career. Roethke maintained friendships with many of his peers, such as William Carlos Williams and Louise Bogan, and he mentored a number of younger poets while teaching at various colleges and universities. His collection The Waking won the Pulitzer Prize in 1954.
