Biography: 

The English soldier, spy, and explorer Sir Walter Raleigh (1552-1618) was a knight of Queen Elizabeth’s court. After the queen’s death, he was executed by the order of King James for treason. His poem “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” is a response poem to Christopher Marlowe’s “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love.”
