The English Cavalier poet Richard Lovelace (1618-1657) was a Royalist supporter of King Charles I during the English Civil War. Lovelace served time in prison for his political actions, and his two most celebrated poems, “To Althea, From Prison” and “To Lucasta, Going to the Wars,” reflect his experiences.
