Poets In Residence

Poetry In Voice is delighted to introduce you to our Poets In Residence for the 2017-2018 school year: Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, Liz Howard, El Jones, Canisia Lubrin, Matt Rader, Stuart Ross, Adam Sol, Chimwemwe Undi, and Phoebe Wang. The Poets In Residence project offers teachers and students a unique opportunity to connect to contemporary Canadian poets working in a broad range of styles and approaches through Skype visits, writing workshops, live interview sessions, and other activities that will bring poetry to life in your classroom. These poets will also be contributing fresh and innovative ideas on topics from close readings to performance, all from a poet’s perspective.

We encourage you to read through all of the poets’ bios and, when possible, buy their books for your classrooms. Our anthology will include a poem by each of the poets and stay tuned for micro-interviews and other illuminating features.

Each year we’ll create a new team of Poets in Residence from different regions across Canada. This year we emphasized poets in Ontario in recognition of this year’s National Finals being held in Toronto. Our focus will change each year.

We are grateful to the Canada Council for the Arts for their support of this brand new program.
