Biography

Maurice Kilwein Guevara is a triple threat artist: poet, playwright, and actor. He was born in Belencito, Colombia, and raised in Pittsburgh. In his work as a poet Maurice often uses overlapping voices and languages to explore tensions and simultaneities in the lives of immigrants in mid-America. His poetry has been nominated for the Pulitzer prize and the National Book Award.) His play, The Last Bridge/El Ultimo Puente (1999), received a staged reading Off-Broadway. He is a founding member of the National Latino Writers’ Association. Maurice has a PhD in English and comparative literature from the University of Wisconsin, where he is now a professor.
