Kamau Brathwaite

b. 1930

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, Kamau Brathwaite is an internationally celebrated poet, performer, and cultural theorist. Co-founder of the Caribbean Artists Movement, he was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and has a PhD from the University of Sussex in the UK. Among the many honours he has received for his large body of work is the Griffin Poetry Prize, which he won in 2006 for Born to Slow Horses

Né à Bridgetown, à Barbade, Kamau Brathwaite est un poète de renommée internationale, un artiste, et un théoricien culturel. Co-fondateur du Mouvement des artistes des Caraïbes (Caribbean Artists Movement), il reçoit son éducation au Collège de Pembroke, à Cambridge, et complète un doctorat à l’Université du Sussex en Angleterre. Parmi les nombreux honneurs qu’il récolte pour l’étendue de son œuvre, se trouve le Prix Griffin de poésie, qu’il remporte en 2006 pour Born to Slow Horses.
