Biography: 

The influential English Restoration poet John Dryden (1631-1700) was born in Northamptonshire and was the oldest of 14 children. He established the use of heroic couplets and other innovative poetic forms. A leading critic of his day who often wrote about politics, art, and science, Dryden became England’s poet laureate in 1668.
