Biography:

Born near Kingston, Upper Canada, and largely self-taught, Charles Sangster achieved literary attention in Canada with the publication of his first poetry collection, The St. Lawrence and the Saguenay, and Other Poems, in 1856. A pre-Confederation poet, Sangster wrote stylistically ornate lines that often seem drunk on nature and God.
