Born in Tucson, Arizona, the American poet Brenda Hillman is the author of nine books of poetry. A graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop, she holds the Olivia Fillippi Chair in Poetry at St. Mary’s College, in Moraga, California. Hillman has cited the French writer André Breton, author of Manifestoes of Surrealism, as an influence, and her work combines experimental techniques with strong narrative and sensual detail. She has edited several books, including a selection of Emily Dickinson’s poems. In 2014, she was the International Winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize.
