Benjamin Garcia made waves with his debut collection THROWN IN THE THROAT, which was selected for the 2019 National Poetry Series. His poetry boldly addresses issues of citizenship, family, and queer identity in tumultuous times. Writing in both English and Spanish, Garcia explores the effects of anti-immigrant cruelty. He writes of complex families that are both supportive and challenging. Garcia is also a Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Educator where he primarily works in jails and drug treatment programs providing HIV, Hepatitis C, STI, and Opiate Overdose Prevention related services. Garcia is originally from New Mexico, raised in Texas, and currently lives in New York.
