Biography

The English poet Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea (1661-1720) was born in Hampshire, lived in the court of Charles II, and became Countess of Winchelsea in 1712. Some of her works, inspired by the work of French poet and fable writer Jean de La Fontaine, are sharply satirical. The subjects of her poems are often love, nature, and women’s role in society.
