Biography

Born in Lincolnshire, Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) was the most popular English poet of the Victorian era, and he served as his country’s poet laureate from 1850 until his death 42 years later. Tennyson had a gift for short lyrics, like those in “Break, Break, Break” and “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” as well as for long narrative works, like Idylls of the King.
