Biography: 

Born and raised in Jamaica, Afua Cooper moved to Canada as a young woman. Cooper has a PhD in history and she has written extensively on the history of Black peoples in Canada. The author of four books of poetry, her non-fiction book The Hanging of Angélique was nominated for a Governor General’s Award. Cooper is the James Robinson Johnston Chair in Black Canadian Studies at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia.
