Third annual Poetry In Voice competition extends across Canada

Toronto, ON – Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie is back for its third year, and this time the stakes are higher and the competition is tougher. For the first time, the annual poetry recitation competition will extend its reach from Ontario and Quebec to the rest of the country, and more than $20,000 in awards and school stipends will be awarded to winners and their school libraries.

Toronto, ON Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie is proud to announce the winners of its second annual poetry recitation competition at Toronto’s Isabel Bader Theatre last night. A judging panel awarded Alexander Gagliano from Upper Canada College the top prize at the prestigious Poetry In Voice Grand Finals, hosted by Albert Schultz, founding artistic director of Soulpepper Theatre Company.

Toronto, ON – Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie today announced a prestigious judging panel of some of Canada’s leading poets for year two of its annual poetry recitation competition. Hosted by Albert Schultz, founding artistic director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, Poetry In Voice will award more than $10,000 in prizes and school stipends to the winners and their school libraries. Founded by Scott Griffin, the competition aims to promote the art of poetry recitation in both the classroom and the community.

Dedicated to promoting the art of poetry in the classroom and the community, the competition urges students to develop personal relationships with poetry through exploration, memorization, and performance.

Scott Griffin, Founder of Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie (PIV/LVP) is pleased to announce that novelist Karine Glorieux, actor and Governor General’s Literary Award–winning writer Robert Lalonde, Soulpepper Theatre founding artist Diana Leblanc, Governor General’s Literary Award–winning poet Dennis Lee, Griffin Poetry Prize–winning poet Karen Solie, and Governor General’s Literary Award–winning poet Élise Turcotte will judge the 2011 Poetry In Voice Recitation Contest Finals on April 12, 2011Albert Schultz, Soulpepper Theatre’s founding Artistic Director, will host the evening’s competition, to be held at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto’s historic Distillery District.

This morning, Scott Griffin, founder of The Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry, announced the launch of Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie, a national bilingual poetry recitation contest combining the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theatre with the study of great literature in the high school classroom.
