What’s new for 2017?

Welcome to our redesigned, mobile friendly site!

Your students now have a slew of new ways to explore poetry:

  • We have 63 lesson plans created by poets and teachers across Canada and abroad that cover topics ranging from science and sports to drama and the environment, and more…
  • Students can now sign up for a four-week writing workshop by our Creative Director, Damian Rogers, and for daily writing prompts by Canadian poets.
  • Recitation is now available as a team event: In our Team Regional events, groups of three students compete against teams from other schools. We also offer advice on how you can run a team event within your classroom or school.

To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, we’re changing the rules: Students competing in the English and French streams of this year’s recitation contest must recite a poem by a Canadian poet. (To all you returning teachers: Our pre-20th century requirement doesn’t apply this year.)

And the upcoming National Finals will be our best yet! We’re busy with our plans for the event, which will take place in Vancouver this spring. Additional details, including key dates, can be found on our National Finals page.

We know this will be an exciting year of poetry in Canadian schools. Enjoy exploring everything new with Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie!
